About the Sports Traders Union

The Sports Traders Union is an independent organization representing the people who trade sports event contracts in the United States.

The rules for these markets are being written right now. Exchanges have lobbyists. Sportsbooks have trade groups. The traders who actually use these markets have had nobody in the room.

We publish the Responsible Trading Code, nine standards for how platforms treat the people using them. We organize traders into a constituency that can be counted. And we track and publish which platforms actually meet the standards they claim to.

About the role and what you will do

  • Run the organization. Day-to-day operations, budget, strategic planning, and the first hires. Stand up what a real nonprofit needs and does not yet have: nonprofit status, bylaws, a governing board, financial controls, and reporting.
  • Grow and serve the membership. Recruit members, survey them, and make sure the Union's positions reflect what traders actually want.
  • Fundraise. Build a funding base broad enough that no single donor determines what the Union can say.
  • Be the public face. Media, conference panels, podcasts, testimony, and comment letters. Represent members to the CFTC, to the exchanges, and to the press.

What we're looking for

Experience running an organization helps, but is not required. What matters:

  • You write clearly and succinctly, and you can hold your own in public.
  • You have built something from nothing before, in any field.
  • You can read rulemaking and understand what it actually does.
  • You are comfortable telling a funder no.

Backgrounds in labor organizing, policy and advocacy, trade associations, consumer protection, journalism, or markets are all relevant. You do not need to be a trader, but you do need to be curious about how these markets work.
